Why Edwards Runs on a Schedule No Spa Can Match
The Second Largest Air Force Base in the Country
Edwards spreads across roughly 301,000 acres, about 470 square miles, reaching into Kern, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles counties.
Around 10,000 people are assigned to Edwards and nearby Plant 42, with just under 2,400 of them active duty. The field was Muroc until 1950.
It was renamed for Captain Glen W. Edwards, a test pilot killed in the crash of a YB-49 flying wing here in 1948. He is not the only name on the map.
Streets on base still carry the names of pilots who flew and died over this lakebed. That scale is why getting a massage here is harder than it sounds.
Distance Is the First Problem
Distances on base are measured in miles rather than blocks, and the drive to the nearest chain spa in Lancaster runs close to 30 minutes each way once you clear the gate.
Rosamond is closer, but has no massage business of its own. Add the gate on the way back and a 60-minute appointment eats an entire evening.
KEN removes the drive completely. The therapist arrives at your address with the table, oils, music, and aromatherapy, and your 60-minute massage takes 60 minutes.
Flight Test Is a Physical Job
This is home to the 412th Test Wing, the Air Force Test Pilot School, and NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, and the work follows the air rather than the clock.
The calmest air over the lakebed is at dawn, so test windows start early and briefs start earlier. That sets the shape of the whole day for thousands of people.
Maintainers and flight line crews spend those hours standing on concrete and ramp, in high desert heat in summer or in pre-dawn cold the rest of the year.
Control room engineers hold one position through an entire test point run. Test Pilot School students carry an academic load on top of flying.
Different jobs, same three casualties: neck, shoulders, lower back. It is the most consistent pattern we see anywhere in the Antelope Valley.
Rogers Dry Lake and the Weather It Brings
Rogers Dry Lake covers about 44 square miles of hard clay lakebed, with Rosamond Dry Lake adding roughly 22 more. It is the reason the base is here.
It is also why there is nothing at all between you and the wind. Summer on the lakebed is punishing, winter mornings bite, and the wind runs year round.
Heat and dehydration tighten muscle, and cold does the same thing from the other direction. A session in your own climate-controlled space beats either one.
KEN Mobile Massage serves Edwards at Local Zone pricing with no distance surcharge. Licensed, background-checked, insured therapists, booking from 10am to 10pm seven days a week, and no drive to Lancaster at the end of a long test day.
When Mobile Massage Makes the Difference
The 0500 Brief
You briefed at 0500 for a dawn test window, and by the time the debrief wraps it is mid-afternoon and you have been on your feet for eleven hours. The last thing you want is the gate, the highway, and a Lancaster waiting room. Book for 6pm and your therapist comes to you. Ninety minutes of deep tissue through the neck and shoulders, and you are functional for tomorrow's window.
PCS Week
Your household goods are three weeks out and you have spent five days lifting boxes, assembling loaner furniture, and driving between the housing office, the Visitor Control Center, and the commissary. Your back is finished and you do not know a single provider in the Antelope Valley yet. Book online in under two minutes and have a licensed therapist at your door that evening.
Two Schedules, One Evening
One of you works a test schedule, the other commutes to Lancaster or Palmdale. Finding a shared evening is the hard part, and once you find it neither of you wants to spend it driving. Book a couples massage for 8pm. Two therapists arrive together and set up side by side. Date night that ends where you already live.

Massage Options for Edwards Residents
The gate is the commute
Reaching the nearest chain spa means clearing the gate and driving close to 30 minutes into Lancaster, then repeating it in reverse. KEN comes to your address, so a 60-minute massage costs you 60 minutes.
Local Zone pricing
Edwards is in our Local Zone. A 60-minute solo session is $120, 90 minutes is $170, and 120 minutes is $240. Couples sessions run $240, $340, and $480. The same rates as Palmdale and Lancaster, with no distance fee for coming out to the base area. No membership fees and no contracts.
Built for military schedules
We book 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, as little as 2 hours ahead. Early test windows, swing shifts, TDY returns, and deployment cycles all move faster than a spa's appointment book.
Licensed and insured
Every KEN therapist carries liability insurance, passes a background check, and holds an active California massage therapy certification. Their name and photo reach you before they reach your door.

Frequently Asked Questions: Edwards
Can a massage therapist come to an on-base address at Edwards?
We serve the Edwards area, and on-base addresses depend on current base access rules. Visitor passes are handled through the Visitor Control Center, and requirements change, so note in your booking that the address is on base and include any sponsor or gate instructions. We also serve residents living off base throughout the surrounding Antelope Valley communities.
I work an unpredictable test schedule. How late can I book?
We book sessions from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, and you can book as little as 2 hours ahead of time, subject to therapist availability. If a test slips and your day runs long, that short booking window is exactly what makes a same-day session possible.
Is there a travel fee for Edwards since it is out on the lakebed?
No. Edwards is in our Local Zone. Solo sessions: $120/60min, $170/90min, $240/120min. Couples: $240/60min, $340/90min, $480/120min. The same pricing as Palmdale and Lancaster, with no surcharge and no hidden fees.
What kind of massage helps after long hours on the flight line?
Deep tissue through the lower back, calves, and feet is the standard answer for anyone who spends a shift standing on concrete in boots. If your work involves overhead reaching, heavy gear, or long stretches looking up at aircraft, ask for trigger point work across the upper back and neck. Tell your therapist what you actually do during intake so they can plan the session around it.
What should I set up before the appointment?
Have your own sheets out: one fitted, one flat, and one pillowcase in twin size. Everything else arrives with the therapist, including the table, oils, music, and complimentary aromatherapy. You need a clear space of roughly 8 by 10 feet at a comfortable temperature. Base housing living rooms work fine. Call (661) 607-4905 if you are unsure about your space.
